Director of Development
“Kari” is definitely the social butterfly on the team. Usually, you’ll find her out in the community meeting with organizations, conducting campaign orientations and sharing our mission and vision with civic groups, among many other things!
Kari’s background is in education (for over 30 years!) in various leadership capacities. She has held positions as Executive Director for Sylvan Learning Centers in Southwest Florida, Chief Communications and Enrollment Officer and also as Florida State Director of Drop-Out Recovery for two national charter school management organizations. Before coming to United Way of the Cape Fear Area, she was Director of Development and Communications for Brigade Boys & Girls Club.
Kari grew up in California and raised her family in Tennessee where she owned and operated a small private school. She received her undergraduate degree in K-12 Education and a Masters Degree in Leadership/Supervision from Tennessee Technological University. Kari is the mother to 5 wonderful grown children, has 9 grandchildren and a rescue pup named Bella. In her spare time she likes to swim, ride her bike, take yoga classes, help with the Carolina Beach Turtle Project and go to the beach.
