Were you affected by Hurricane Matthew? Here’s what you NEED to do!

Hurricane Matthew UPDATE!

For immediate disaster relief health and human service resources dial United Way’s resource helpline at 2-1-1.  NC2-1-1 can also be reached at www.NC211.orgFor urgent emergency needs, always dial 911 for immediate help.

  • DONATE monetarily to your local Hurricane Matthew disaster relief
  • Donate to the NC Disaster Relief Fund.
  • Donate to The Salvation Army
  • Donate to The Red Cross to provide immediate relief.
  • Help people affected by Hurricane Matthew by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word MATTHEW to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Cash donations are being accepted through United Way of the Cape Fear Area or can be sent to the volunteer organization of your choice that is active in disaster relief and recovery.

The United Way of the Cape Fear Area distributes any disaster relief funds received through the local Community Agencies Active in Disasters (COAD) based on agency activity and needs during both short and long term recovery.

The public will be notified of specific tangible item and volunteer needs through social media, local media outlets and the local United Way of the Cape Fear Area’s website at uwcfa.org.

  • The American Red Cross is currently accepting volunteer applications.
    Those interested in volunteering are asked to wait until specific needs are identified and an announcement is made by authorities. Please do not deploy volunteers until an official announcement regarding those needs. For more information on possible volunteer opportunities, please visit www.redcross.org/volunteer.
  • Food Bank of CENC Most Needed Disaster Relief Items: These items can be dropped off at the Wilmington Branch @ Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina – 1314 Marstellar Street Wilmington, NC 28401 PHONE 910.251.1465.

  • The Salvation Army

United Way of the Cape Fear Area is fielding all calls for those interested in contacting the COAD and will help disseminate all information from our office.  Please call 910-798-3900.
