United Way of the Cape Fear Area celebrated the launch of a new affinity group, Emerging Leaders, on September 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Oceanic pier on Wrightsville Beach. Emerging Leaders will be made up of local individuals between the ages of 21 and 45 who are interested in networking with their peers, career development opportunities and becoming involved in the Cape Fear Area through a pledge to give, advocate and volunteer.
Emerging Leaders aims to increase awareness of community issues among their members through first-hand experiences volunteering with local health and human service non-profit organizations. Emerging Leaders will also offer Lunch and Learn-style seminars with community leaders and professional networking opportunities for members.
“The people I know in this age group want to grow socially, they want to grow professionally and they want a chance to give back. Emerging Leaders offers the opportunity to do all three,” said Emerging Leaders co-chair, Kelly Schaudt, “We want members to have fun together and we want to get out and get engaged in the community. United Way works with so many great non-profit programs in this area. They can really offer us the opportunity to make a real, lasting change.”
The Emerging Leaders Launch Party featured live music by The Cosmic Groove Lizards, food provided by Oceanic and cash bar. Following the Launch Party, Emerging Leaders will meet monthly and have quarterly networking events sponsored by LM Restaurants.
