Emerging Leaders

Who we are:

Emerging Leaders is an affinity group of United Way, made up of individuals between the ages of 21 and 45 who are interested in networking with their peers, career development opportunities and becoming involved in the Cape FearArea through a pledge to GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER.

What we do:  We LIVE UNITED through three simple steps:

Give:

We donate a minimum of $100 through United Way of the Cape Fear Area annual to benfit local program that addres the highest priority needs in the Cape Fear Area.

Our donations:

-lower the local high school drop-out rate,

-provide local students with after-school programs, academic support and college preparation,

-help local families gain access to safe and affordable housing,

-provide assistance to local residents to meet basic needs,

-provide medical, mental health and case managment services to local victims of abuse,

-provide access to services that prevent unnecessary emergency room visits for uninsured local residents.

Advocate:

We don’t just wear the shirt. We live it. We know that when you extend a hand to one, you influence the condition of all. Real, sustainable community improvement requires the support of committed people. Change comes when people advance causes they believe in. United Way is not about politics; it’s about understanding community issues and coming together to resolve them to create a healthier, happier place to live and work for every Cape Fear Area
resident.

Volunteer:

We volunteer at least 12 hours per year in the local community. Each of us has our own skills and talents and we choose to put them to work for United Way and the Cape Fear Area non-profits. Because when we bring our talents together, we become a force for change in our community!

Benefits of membership:

We build our resumes with career development opportunities such as Lunch and Learn seminars with key community figures, quarterly professional networking events and increased awareness of community issues. We enjoy social events and opportunities to volunteer, alongside our peers, for leading area non-profit organizations.
All members receive a black LIVE UNITED t-shirt, a United Way lapel pin and invitations to specific events such as United Way’s annual Kickoff Celebration at Airlie Gardens. All members are invited to monthly meetings, volunteer opportunities and quarterly networking functions hosted by LM Restaurants!
