Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing (HPRP)

NOTICE: Effective April 2011 the Cape Fear HPRP Project Screening Process is officially closed. 
No new clients will be screened for HPRP eligibility. 
All Recovery Act Funds allocated to the project will be liquidated by currently enrolled clients.

United Way of the Cape Fear Area was awarded $1.2 million in HPRP funds to be used over the next three years to assist rental households in crisis.

Types of HPRP assistance available:

-temporary rental assistance payments

-temporary utility assistance payments

-rental unit and utility deposits

-credit repair

-moving assistance

-motel vouchers for up to 30 days when permanent housing has been identified



In order to be eligible (not guaranteed) for HPRP funds, a household must meet the following basic eligibility requirements:

  • currently renting or looking to rent
  • have no other means of financial support
  • not exceed income requirements
